Our ASA club coaches, staff and front office would like to thank all Academy families for an incredibly fun fall season! We made important strides forward as club in support of our Academy players, including finding increasing success implementing our playing style in leagues and tournaments, growing our club-hosted tournament to provide our own teams with local and appropriate match experiences, and improving content application for the individual and team on the training pitch.
At the individual level coaches focused on developing the ASA "model player" through hundreds of team practices, goalkeeper training, and advanced ball mastery sessions. This season, (9) NCSL teams earned league promotion, (16) teams earned a semi-final and/or final berths in Columbus Day tournaments, and (14) teams earned semi-final and/or final berths in post-season tournaments. In addition, Our 02 Boys Red team reached the VYSA State Cup Final Four. Going into the spring, we'll see numerous teams in our older U13+ teams advance to play in the regions largest league in competitive Eastern Regional League (ERL), while our 02 Boys Red will play in National League (NL), United States Youth Soccer's highest level of league competition.
The club hosted a successful 2nd annual America's Cup Columbus Day tournament, which provided our 9U-12U teams with great competition on our Bermuda grass and turf facilities. The tournament attracted a total of a 112 teams, a 15% increase in participation from the previous year. Looking forward to the Spring, the club will host our signature event, the Alexandria Kick-Off (ASK) Boys & Girls, which attracts over 250 teams and will now include a full-sided 13U-15U weekend.
On the training pitch, players benefited from an even more detailed curriculum to learn our intelligent playing style. Coaches have provided positive feedback to the clarity and content/objectives for each age group. Going into the spring, the technical staff is working to provide increased on-field support based on age group player and coach profile. We work hard to customize our activity progressions and select appropriate level competition and hope our attention this Winter will make for an even more successful and exciting Spring season!
Transitioning into the Winter months we strongly encourage all Academy players to play as often as possible! Become one with the ball by playing on your own, with a friend or on a team in our Sunday Futsal league. Players can sign up as individuals or as a team. In addition our coaches will be communicating the Winter training schedule in the coming weeks. We will be working hard to keep our momentum going through the Winter and hope to see you and your child out there with us on the courts or fields.
In the coming weeks we will also begin announcing our 2018 programs such as summer camps, our first ever residential camps and international trip opportunities! We appreciate your role in supporting your child throughout his or her soccer journey and it's our goal to continue offering opportunities that help challenge players as well as grow skills, confidence and love for the game. In order to better share opportunities, stories, successes, and information we've launched a club-wide blog
and we'd love for you to check it out.
Cheers to enjoying a wonderful holiday season in our Alexandria community.
