ASA Technical Staff
Executive and Technical Director: Tommy Park is a graduate of DeMatha High School and product of D.C. United Academy. Tommy was a regional NSCAA All-American at University of Mary Washington where he excelled in both soccer and lacrosse. His coaching experiences include coach of the SAC U-19 Region I premier team. SAC named him Travel Coach of the Year in 2009 after his team entered the top 10 rankings nationally and all rostered players moved on to play collegiate soccer. He enters his seventh year at nationally recognized DeMatha High School as a varsity coach, was an on-site camp director for D.C. United for seven years and an assistant coach of D.C. United’s Super-20 Team from 2008-2011. He has his MPS in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University. Tommy is a USSF "A" and "National Youth" licensed coach. He was named Executive Director of ASA in the Fall of 2011.
Director of Youth Development: Chris Arnold began his playing career in New Orleans, Louisiana with the highly successful New Orleans Soccer Academy. He earned a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he was a standout player and team captain. At Charlotte, he obtained his B.A. in Political Science with a Minor in Psychology. In college, Chris won a National Championship with the Carolina Dynamo of the PDL where he played with a host of current professional players. Prior and upon completion of college, Chris gained invaluable playing experiences abroad in the Netherlands and Belgium. After finishing his soccer career, Chris worked in the front office of D.C. United. In 2010, he worked at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as a Transportation and Logistics Manager. Chris has worked with a variety of age groups and genders ranging from 2 to 18 years of age. He serves as the U10 Girls Age Group Director and ASA Director of Youth Development. He currently holds the USSF “B” and the "National Youth" licenses.
Director of Coaching: Ryan Rich has coached more than 8 years at the U9/U10 age groups. He played at Princeton University, earning All-Ivy honors and graduated as one of the school’s leaders in career assists. After graduation, he trained and played in reserve matches for the NJ/NY Metros (now the NY Red Bulls). During his youth soccer career, Ryan played on the Region I and Virginia State Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams and a member of the 5-time Virginia State Club Champions, Beach FC Desperadoes. While playing for his Virginia State ODP team in England, he received professional interest from Fulham (English Premier League) at only 15 years of age. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education and teaches in the Alexandria City Public School system at George Mason Elementary School. He currently holds the USSF “C” and "National Youth" Licenses.
ASA Boys Travel Coaching Staff
U9 Boys Age Group Coordinator/Head coach - Jim Hogan has coached locally for over 7 years. He played at Keene State College, earning all-conference and all-region teams on multiple occasions. He serves as the U9 Boys Age Group Director as well as the Challenge Program Director. Jim currently is the Special Programs Manager for D.C. United, focusing on youth soccer. He currently holds the USSF “C” license and the National Youth License.
U10 Boys Age Group Director/U9 Boys Coach - Ryan Rich has coached more than 8 years at the U9/U10 age groups. U11 Boys Age Group Director/U13 Boys Coach - Nick Kapus grew up playing in the area for Robinson Secondary School where he was 1st team all-met and the Fairfax County Player of the year in 2007. He went on to be on all-conference selection and a four year starter for American University where he graduated with a degree in Business Marketing. Nick also played as a part of the D.C. United U-20 where he captained them to a National Semi Final. Post-college, Nick took on his first coaching opportunity with Dematha H.S. where he was a part of a National Championship Season in 2011. He is currently USSF D liscenced and is working toward his "C" license. In addition to currently two boys travel teams he is fully involved in ASA’s Tots program as well as various other ASA programs.
U12 Boys Age Group Director - Herve Roussel a French native played at Le Mans and Tours and for their Youth Football Academy. Hervé has been involved with coaching in the USA for over 20 years, from adults teams, to High School and Youth clubs around the USA . He played not only in Europe but also in Florida, and the Midwest. He holds a Bachelor of Art, where he was named on the All American Football Team as a kicker. Hervé teaches in an Alexandria private school system. He holds the USSF National “D” license.
U13 Boys Age Group Director/U11 Boys Coach - Glenn Gray holds a USSF "B" coaching license and has coached with the state and district levels of Olympic Development Program in Virginia and South Carolina. Previously, he was an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University and has coached for several elite clubs: Arlington Soccer Association, Richmond Kickers, Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association and Coastal Georgia Soccer Association (Savannah, GA). As a player, he was a two-time all-conference and all-region performer at the University of Mary Washington and served as captain his final two years. He played four seasons in the USL Premier Development League with the NOVA Royals, Fredericksburg Gunners, Richmond Kickers and Fredericksburg Hotspurs.
U14 Boys Age Group Director- Tom Hamblett
U15 Boys Age Group Director- Chris Vaccaro has been coaching travel soccer for ten years, six with ASA. He currently coaches the U-9 Patriots and the U-14 Arsenal. He holds a USSF “D” Coaching License and will attend the USSF "C" Coaching License class this summer. Prior to coaching, Chris was a four-year varsity starter at Vassar College and remains the all-time leading goal scorer for Camden Catholic High School (New Jersey). He also played for the New Jersey Olympic Development Team and the New Jersey State Select team. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education and currently teaches for Alexandria City Public Schools at Samuel Tucker Elementary.
U16 Boys Head Coach - Gabe Damiani has been coaching Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) travel teams since 1982. Coach Damiani has lead several ASA travel teams to NCSL Division 1 since he began coaching and has had several of his travel players continue playing soccer in college. He played C Division level in Italy. He holds a “D” license and currently serves as the U16 Boys head coach.
U17 Boys Head Coach/U14 Girls Head Coach - Ryan Quinn currently coaches the U14 Revolution Girls White and U17 Boys Dynamo Elite with ASA. Ryan has a tremendous amount of experience both as a player and coach. He currently holds the USSF “B” License.
U18 Boys Head Coach – Ricardo Salamanca has over 25 years of playing experience and over 15 years of coaching experience. Ricardo began his playing career in El Salvador as a youth player before moving to the United States as a teenager. He went on to play Division 1 College Soccer at Old Dominion University. Ricardo began his coaching career in 1996 and has continued to coach some of the top youth players in the area. He currently holds is USSF “C” License.
ASA Travel Girls Coaching Staff
U9 Girls Age Group Coordinator/Head Coach - Todd Wegner is an experienced player and coach. Todd is a lead trainer for the ASA Challenge program and coached several travel teams at Crofton Soccer club (MD) this Spring. He began his collegiate career at Trine University, where he earned all-conference honors, before transferring to play his final two seasons at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Since then he has played amateur soccer in London, England, and currently manages and plays for an amateur mens club team competing in the Washington Premier League. He currently hold the USSF “D” license.

U11 Girls Age Group Coordinator/U14 Girls Coach - Lyle Adams coached girls at Arlington the previous two years before making the move last Winter with ASA training programs and now is the Age Group Head coach of the U11 girls age group. Lyle was a four year letter winner at Wake Forest University leading them to a National Championship. Lyle was then drafted by D.C. United but decided to test the waters in Europe. Lyle currently holds the USSF "D" license.
U12 Girls Age Group Coordinator/U11 Girls Coach - Kyle Bakas has been coaching for five years and has worked at all levels of youth soccer including recreational, competitive travel, High school. Immediately after college he was the Assistant coach of Hesperia High School of the extremely competitive California Interscholastic Federation where he helped lead the team to a 22-4 record and a semifinal appearance in the State Competition. Coach Kyle has worked as the soccer director at a Maine sports camp for the previous three summers, and most recently served as the Director of Coaches and Player Development at Old Dominion Football Club. A native of California Coach Kyle decided to move to the East Coast to pursue his degree in Philosophy at The Catholic University. While at Catholic he played for the Men’s Varsity soccer team and track team and earned All Academic Conference Honors. Kyle has he NSCAA Advanced National diploma.
U13 Girls Head Coach - Jenn Schwartz is an experienced player and has coached 4 years with Alexandria Soccer Association. She has experience with U9-U16 girls teams. She also has experience in implementing and consulting on Injury Prevention, Strength and Conditioning programs for individuals, clubs, high schools, and Olympic level athletes. Her playing career began in the Baltimore, Maryland area, she competed in WAGS, ODP, and earned a Division II Scholarship to Goldey Beacom College. Jennifer gained invaluable playing experience in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and the UK. She holds a BS in Health Sciences and Physical Therapy, a certified Muscle Activation Techniques™ Specialist, and a USSF “D” License.
U16 Girls Head Coach - Mavis Danso is currently the Head Coach of the ASA U16 Thunder girls. She bring a wealth of knowledge both as a coach and player. Mavis’ playing career is highlighted by selection to the Ghanaian Women’s National team. Mavis was a member of the teams that competed in the ’03 and ’07 Women’s World Cup. She also represented Ghana in multiple African Nations Cup competitions. As a coach, she has worked with a variety of age groups from 5 – 19 years old. Mavis currently hold her USSF “D” License. She graduated from Robert Morris University where she was a member of the Women’s soccer team.
U17 Girls Head Coach - Ed Thomas is currently the Head Coach of the ASA U17 Freedom girls. Prior to moving to Alexandria, Ed lived and coached in Maine. While in Maine, Ed gained a great amount of experience coaching various levels of soccer, including, High School and College. Ed currently holds his NSCAA National Diploma and has been involved in organized soccer for over 30 years.
Grigor Boychev has coached over 2 years with Alexandria Soccer Association. He has been involved with the current U9 and U11 boys teams as an assistant coach. He offers a wealth of playing experience, including 11 years of competitive youth soccer and 1 year of semi-professional soccer in Bulgaria. His youth team won numerous regional championships and a national championship once. He played under one of Bulgaria’s most reknown youth coaches who helped develop one of Bulgaria’s best players, Hristo Stoichkov. Grigor currently holds the USSF “C” and National Youth License.
Vassar Cates is a highly experienced coach and joins ASA from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vassar currently coaches with the U12 boys and U10 girls age groups. In addition, Vassar coaches various ASA Programs including skills and Tots classes. He played college soccer at West Texas A&M and continued on to play progressional soccer with the Dallas Sidekicks. He currently holds the USSF "B" License.
Trey Livingston currently works with youth programs at ASA and is a coach for D.C. United’s Inner-City program. He recently worked as the Director of Soccer Operations for two years at Georgetown University while graduating from the University in 2011 with a Master’s Degree in Sports Industry Management. As a player, he was a three-year starter and four-year letter winner at the historical Division 1 program of Howard University. He holds an NSCAA Goalkeeping II and an Advanced National Diploma, while also having a USSF “D” License.
Philippe Milogo began coaching while in college at Marymount University where he played on the men’s soccer team. Philippe has worked with kids of all ages at various camps and clinics while also coaching with various club teams in the area. Currently, he coaches the U11 Boys Strikers Blue. He holds his USSF “D” license.
Christophe Poyac has had a passion for soccer as far back as he can remember. He still enjoys playing indoor and outdoor soccer every week. Currently, he coaches soccer at Browne Academy where he began teaching French in 2005. Christophe has coached U9/U10 girls in the past and currently coaches the U12 Boys Blue Stars. He took the VYSA VCE ’D’ course this summer.
Grady Renfrow has coached various age groups for several years including Gonzaga College High School. He played at Penn State University earning All-Big Ten honors. Grady then spent time with D.C. United’s reserve team after graduating and continued his professional career in Egypt and in Puerto Rico. Most recently he started his professional indoor soccer career in the M.I.S.L. with the Rochester Lancers. Grady also has six caps with the United States Futsal National team. He will attend the USSF “C” license course this summer.
Ian Wilson is an experienced player and has coached for various youth teams in the D.C. Metro area. After captaining his nationally ranked DeMatha Catholic High School team in 2008, he went on to play four years at Salisbury University, leading the team as captain in his senior season. He also played with the DC United Super-20 team in the summer of 2010. His soccer resume also includes time playing in Italy and he spent a summer working for the National Institute of Sport Expertise and Performance in Paris, France. He currently hold the USSF National “D” license.
